Q685: Why Was Satan Able To Deceived and Used The Chief Apostle Peter? The AGAPE Love Toward GOD vs. The PHILEO Love Toward Man.

The Greek Language has several Words and Meanings on the subject of LOVE. In contrast, the English Language is limited to ONLY ONE WORD for the subject of LOVE. This reality created Confusion, Deception, and Misunderstanding on the subject of LOVE. In this article, we will discuss only the 2 Kinds of LOVE (AGAPE & Phileo) according to the Greek Language.

PHILEO LOVE DENIES CHRIST, EVEN THOUGH YOU PROMISED OTHERWISE
  • Peter...said to Christ, THOUGH ALL SHALL BE OFFENDED BECAUSE OF YOU, I WILL NEVER BE OFFENDED. (Mat 26:33 MKJV)
  • Jesus said to him...this night, BEFORE the COCK CROWS, YOU SHALL DENY ME 3 TIMES. Peter said to Him, THOUGH I SHOULD DIE WITH YOU, yet, I WILL NOT DENY YOU. (Mat 26:34-35 MKJV)
PETER KNOWS ONLY THE PHILEO LOVE; AND HE MISAPPLIED IT TO CHRIST AND GOD THE FATHER
  • …Jesus said to Simon Peter… DO YOU LOVE (Agapao) ME more than these? He said to Him, Yes, Lord, You know that I LOVE (Phileo) You. He said to him, Feed My lambs. (Joh 21:15 MKJV)
The Spiritual AGAPE LOVE must be applied when loving The CREATOR/S (God The FATHER and CHRIST). That is, the AGAPE LOVE is "MORE THAN," or Greater than the Physical Phileo Love that is applied to Human Beings and other Creations.
  • CHRIST said to him the 2nd time, Simon...DO YOU LOVE (Agapao) Me? He said to Him, Yes, Lord, You know that I LOVE (Phileo) You. He said to him, Feed My sheep. (Joh 21:16 MKJV)
CHRIST asked the same question using to confirm that Peter only love Him in the lower quality of Phileo Love.
  • CHRIST said to him the 3rd time, Simon...DO YOU LOVE (Phileo) Me? Peter was grieved because He said to him a third time, DO YOU LOVE (Phileo) Me? And he said to Him, Lord, You know all things, You know that I LOVE (Phileo) You. Jesus said to him, Feed My sheep. (Joh 21:17 MKJV)
When it was confirmed that Peter loved Christ only in the Phileo Way, Christ asked him the 3rd Time, also using Phileo Love.
THE GREAT IMPORTANCE OF THE AGAPE LOVE TO OBEY GOD AND CHRIST

Without AGAPE LOVE, no one can OBEY God's Commandments (1John 5:2-3).
  • By this we know that we LOVE (Agapao) the Children of God, whenever we LOVE (Agapao) GOD and KEEP His Commandments. (1John 5:2 MKJV)
  • For this is the LOVE (AGAPE) of GOD, that WE KEEP HIS COMMANDMENTS... (1John 5:3 MKJV)
Those that do not Love (Agapao) Christ can not truly Love Men. They will naturally (Phileo) Love only other Men or their enemies. And during Life-and-Death situation, they will gravitate to themselves; just like the Apostle Peter when he denied Christ 3 times (Matthew 26:69-75).

For the Pastors, Priests, and Rabbis, they cannot truly love their Works and Church Membership if they don't have that AGAPE Love to CHRIST (2Corinthians 5:14-15).
  • For the LOVE (AGAPE) OF CHRIST constrains us, judging this, that if one died for all, then all died; and He died for all, that The LIVING ONES MAY LIVE NO MORE to THEMSELVES, but TO HIM WHO DIED FOR THEM and HAVING BEEN RAISED. (2Cor 5:14-15 MKJV)
Nothing but the AGAPE Love of Christ will allow Ministers and Pastors to overcome the temptations, difficulties, and discouragements they meet with in their works. This AGAPE Love will make their Ministerial or Pastoral works easy.

PHILEO LOVE FOCUS ONLY ON THE THINGS OF MEN; NOT THE THINGS OF GOD. IT DECEIVED CHRIST FOLLOWERS TO BE USED BY SATAN
  • CHRIST...teach them that He must suffer many things...be rejected...be killed, and after 3 days rise again. (Mar 8:31 MKJV)
  • Then PETER took Him aside and began to REBUKE Him, "Oh no, Lord! This will never happen to You!" (Mat 16:22 HCSB)
  • ...CHRIST rebuked Peter, saying, Go behind Me, SATAN! For you do not mind the Things of God, but of the Things of Men. (Mar 8:33 MKJV)
PETER OPPOSED IT; HE TOOK CHRIST, and BEGAN TO REBUKE HIM. Here Peter showed more love than discretion, a zeal for Christ and His safety, but not according to knowledge... he took him aside privately, and began to rebuke him. This was not the language of the least authority, but of the greatest affection, of that jealousy for the welfare of those we love, which is strong as death...Peter here took too great a liberty. Christ checked him for his opposition (Mar_8:33); He turned about, as one offended, and looked on his disciples, to see if the rest of them were of the same mind, and concurred with Peter in this, that, if they did, they might take the reproof to themselves, which he was now about to give to Peter; and he said, Get thee behind me, Satan... Note, Christ sees that amiss in what we say and do, which we ourselves are not aware of, and knows what manner of spirit we are of, when we ourselves do not.
(1.) Peter spoke as one that did not rightly understand, nor had duly considered, the purposes and counsels of God. When he saw such proofs as he every day saw of the power of Christ, he might conclude that he could not be compelled to suffer; the most potent enemies could not overpower him whom diseases and deaths, whom winds and waves and devils themselves, were forced to obey and yield to. He looked upon his death only as a martyrdom, like that of the prophets, which he thought might be prevented, if either he would take a little care not to provoke the chief priests, or to keep out of the way; but he knew not that the thing was necessary for the glory of God, the destruction of Satan, and the salvation of man, that the Captain of our salvation must be made perfect through sufferings, and so must bring many sons to glory. Note, The wisdom of man is perfect folly, when it pretends to give measures to the divine counsels.

(2.) Peter spoke as one that did not rightly understand, nor had duly considered, the nature of Christ's kingdom; he took it to be temporal and human, whereas it is spiritual and divine. Peter seemed to mind more the things that relate to the lower world, and the life that now is, than those which relate to the upper world, and the life to come. Minding the things of men more than the things of God, our own credit, ease, and safety, more than the things of God, and his glory and kingdom, is a very great sin, and the root of much sin, and very common among Christ's disciples; and it will appear in suffering times, those times of temptation, when those in whom the things of men have the ascendant, are in danger of falling off. Thou art not wise (so it may be read) in the things of God, but in the things of men. It is important to consider what generation we appear wise in, Luk_16:8.  -- MATTHEW HENRY'S COMMENTARY ON THE WHOLE BIBLE

PHILEO LOVE INCREASED LAWLESSNESS CAUSING AGAPE LOVE TO BECOME COLD. AND WITH LITTLE FAITH, IT BECAME LUKEWARM
  • And because INIQUITY SHALL ABOUND, the LOVE (Agape) of many will BECOME COLD. (Mat 24:12 MKJV)
  • So because you are LUKEWARM, and neither cold nor hot, I will VOMIT you out of My mouth. (Rev 3:16 MKJV)
  • Because you say, I am rich and increased with goods and have need of nothing, and do not know that you are Wretched, Miserable, Poor, Blind, and Naked, (Rev 3:17 MKJV)
IF YOU HAVE PHILEO LOVE ONLY, CHRIST WILL REBUKE AND CHASTEN YOU. AND SATAN WILL SIFT YOU
  • As many as I LOVE (Phileo), I Rebuke and Chasten; therefore be Zealous and Repent. (Rev 3:19 MKJV)
  • ...CHRIST rebuked Peter, saying, Go behind Me, SATAN! For you do not mind the Things of God, but of the Things of Men. (Mar 8:33 MKJV)
  • And the Lord said, Simon, Simon, behold, SATAN hath DESIRED to have YOU, that he may SIFT YOU as  WHEAT: (Luk 22:31 KJV)
THEREFORE, DENY YOURSELF AND MAN-MADE TEACHINGS. FOLLOW ONLY GOD'S AGAPE LOVE

AGAPE LOVE can be understood and properly acquired only via God's MESSIANIC KABBALAH WISDOM, which is Christ Jesus Himself (Mark 8:34, Revelation 3:18).
  • ...He said to them, WHOEVER WILL COME AFTER Me, LET HIM DENY HIMSELF and TAKE UP HIS CROSS and FOLLOW ME. (Mar 8:34 MKJV)
  • ...BUY from Me GOLD Purified by Fire, so that you may be RICH; and White Clothing, so that you may be clothed, and so that the SHAME of your NAKEDNESS does not appear. And ANOINT your eyes with EYE SALVE, so that you may SEE. (Rev 3:18 MKJV)
It's good that Peter learned the lessons of AGAPE LOVE in the End of his life. With the HELP of CHRIST, of course (Luke 22:32). Yes, we must have AGAPE LOVE if we want to be accepted by Christ (Ephesians 1:4).
  • ...WE should be HOLY and WITHOUT BLAME before Him in AGAPE LOVE: (Eph 1:4 KJV)
