Q134: WHY IS THE WIFE NOT MENTIONED IN THE SABBATH COMMAND? Is She Allowed To Work On The Sabbath Day?

Sir Lope, I'm an XWCG. I'd like to ask why the "wife" is not mentioned in the Sabbath command? Is she allowed to work on the Sabbath?

Lope Columna Hi, Marcelo! You have a good question. The reason why the wife is not mentioned in the Sabbath command (Exodus 20:8-10), is because the wife is automatically included in the husband. We must remember that the husband and wife is always classified by God as ONE (1), not 2, not separate. This is a major principle of Marriage that many Christians, Churches, and the World do not fully understand (Eph 5:31-32)! That's why the Churches and the World have lots of Marriage problems today!

So, the fact that the wife is not mentioned in the Sabbath command does not mean that the wife is already allowed to work on the Sabbath Day. As the Husband is obligated to obey the Sabbath command, and the job of the wife is to support her Husband, so the wife is also to obey the Sabbath command, as they are one.

Marcelo Fernandez You have an excellent answer. I agree 100%. Many have not thought of it that way and they reasoned Jewish family is masochistic and treated the wife as second class member of the household.

Lope Columna You know, Marriage is a Mystery, even a GREAT MYSTERY as written in Ephesians 5:31-32. And because Marriage is a Great Mystery, no human being can claim to know Marriage, unless God reveals the Mystery to him.
