This is the restraining power or prohibition controlled by an individual or group, or the restraining power of God. The most natural interpretation refers it to some power, meaning that there was something in the form of the existing administration which would prevent this development until that restraint should be removed.
This RESTRAINER is the "LETTETH" that "WILL LET" the prophesy of "falling away from the Truth" (Apostasy) to be fulfilled (2Thessalonians 2:3). It functioned by hiding and restraining the revelation of God's supernal Messianic Kabbalah Wisdom of Truth embodied in the Holy Zohar. This prohibition or "FAMINE OF GOD'S WORDS" (Amos 8:11), created the ideal environment for the corrupt man-made doctrines of the Churches to deceived the whole world, and the End-Time Antichrist to be in power.
And, since it is restricted, the Religions of the World became a Mystery, resulting to the MYSTERY OF INIQUITY, which means some of its arms and government dare not show itself publicly. Thus, we have those several Secret Societies (Freemasons, New World Order, etc.).
But when "that which now restraineth shall be taken out of the way," which means the taking away of the prohibition to study the Zohar (leading to the revelations of God's Messianic Kabbalah Wisdom), then the "Man of Sin" and the False Gospel of Men & Churches will be exposed!

PHYSICS' 3RD LAW OF MOTION HELPS TO EXPLAIN THE ANTICHRIST "RESTRAINER"
2Thessalonians 2:6-7 can be clearly understood by the use of the Laws of Physics, which God the Father created, for us to understand His Eternal Power and Godhead (Romans 1:20).
Thus, using Newton's 3rd Law of Motion, which states: "For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction," it means that the strong and powerful ANTICHRIST can only appear once its opposite power of Messianic Kabbalah also appears! During the time that Messianic Kabbalah is restrained or hidden, the ultimate Antichrist cannot appear!
THE HIDING & RESTRAINING OF THE MESSIANIC KABBALAH MYSTERIES IN THE ZOHAR IS THE "RESTRAINER"
Many asked why God revealed so much Messianic Kabbalah secrets in the Zohar only to hide it for many centuries. The Zohar was hidden by God the Father for 1,200 years; and even after it was published, there was that prohibition to be taught in public. The reason is because of God's declared Famine of His Words (Amos 8:11-12), which is the Restrainer to prevent the ultimate Antichrist to appear, except in the END-TIME (2Thes 2:6).
Throughout the course of history, there have been 9 major famines. Immediately before the Messianic Age, there will be a 10th. But the hunger pangs will be of a different sort, as the prophet (Amos 8:11) said, "Behold, days are coming, said G-d, the Lord, when I will send hunger to the world; not a hunger for bread, and not a thirst for water - but to hear the words of God." -- (Bereishit Rabba on Gen. 25:3, Gen. 40:3, and Gen. 64:2).
The 2,000 years of this "Famine" or withholding of God's Messianic Kabbalah revelations allowed the worldwide deceptions to go in success (Revelations 12:9). This is because without God's Messianic Kabbalah the people do not know the True Knowledge of God; making them vulnerable to all kinds of deceptions.
The withholding of God's Messianic Kabbalah Light to the world, also shows God's Mercy and manifold Wisdom in the Salvation of Mankind. The Time of Delay gave those candidates for salvation (Jews and righteous Gentiles), sufficient time to repent and transform their lives based on Christ's righteousness.

The TRUE GOSPEL is called a Mystery, specifically the MYSTERY OF GODLINESS (Eph 6:19, Rom 16:25, 1Tim 3:16). Similarly, the doctrines and practices of the FALSE GOSPEL of the Antichrist is also called a Mystery; the MYSTERY OF INIQUITY.
The doctrines of this Mystery of Iniquity are now established in the Churches by False Teachers and False Prophets. These are the following:

- Idolatry, and holding communion with idolaters, are common.
- Worship that is based on the Commandments and Traditions of men were practiced.
- The extremes of Marriage perversion: Celibacy and Same-Sex Marriage are now admired and legalized.
- The doctrine of the perverted "Saved by Grace, not by Works" is being popularized.
- The doctrine of God's Laws and the Ten Commandments being "DONE AWAY," "NAILED TO THE CROSS," or "ONLY FOR ISRAEL."
From the history of Jewish Kabbalah, Jesus Christ -- the Jewish Messiah, was never mentioned or included. This is to be expected because, generally speaking, the Jewish Kabbalists do not believe in Jesus Christ as the Messiah, and they despise the New Testament. Therefore, the traditional Jewish Kabbalah lacks the new and more sublime Kabbalistic Truths and revelations from Jesus Christ and His Apostles. Although, the Jews has their own Jewish Kabbalah, the Messianic Kabbalah Wisdom was not revealed to them.
