If the God of the Bible which you speak of was all benevolent, then why does He let these EVIL things happen in the first place?

Lope Columna The answer to your question is already mentioned in your additional comment. Yes, the answer is FREE WILL. God gave Adam and all his Children the Test of Human Right or Free Will for 6,000 years => To OBEY or DISOBEY GOD. That is, TO DO or NOT DO the WILL of God The Father.
In other words, Mankind was given the Test of HUMAN RIGHT to do what they please (Good and/or Evil). After 6,000 Years, at the Return of Christ, NO Human Right will be allowed anymore. Only GOD's WILL and Divine Right will be allowed.
Only those who used their Human Right to OBEY or DO THE WILL of God The Father, are proven to be Qualified to inhabit the Whole Universe (Isaiah 45:18, John 17:3, Matthew 7:21).

People who live and work a CARNAL and SENSUAL LIFE, whose main goal in life is to savor the pleasures of the flesh, instead of employing themselves to the honor of God and the good of others, are planting seeds in the flesh. They spend all their thoughts, time, money, and influence in the flesh; therefore, they must expect no other fruit of such a course than corruption and death -- a short-lived satisfaction at present, and shame and misery at the end.
On the other hand, those who SOW IN THE SPIRIT, are those who under the guidance and influence of God's Holy Spirit. They live a HOLY and SPIRITUAL LIFE, a life of knowing and obeying God; of usefulness to others. Thus, they shall reap Blessings, Honor, and Eternal Life in the End.
Some people go about to mock God and deceive themselves. Hypocrisy in religion is the greatest folly as well as wickedness, since God can easily see through all our disguises, and will certainly deal with us hereafter, not according to our beliefs only, but according to our actions and speeches.

Your God is malevolent in that he lets little children (his children) die of disease, hunger, be homeless, and all other evil things that happen to them in their innocence.

With this ignorance you are just teaching lies and falsehood; and you will be condemned heavily by God. If not, then you got a lighter punishment.
You condemned God by allowing little Children to die of Diseases, Hunger, etc. Yet, you don't condemn People and Nations who killed little Children by ABORTION and "SAFE-SEX" methods.
